I 'm just finishing reading a great book, Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It's set in the future, but is a bad time for people. Since there was a rebellion and lots of wars, the Capitol, or the government decided to punish the people from each district (like states) They had to give up two people between the ages of 12 and 18 to fight in the Hunger Games to the death. At first I thought, how can someone write a book about killing, but it's different. Katniss is a good person who hates it, but will save herself because she has to. I like it that she finally can trust her partner Peeta not to kill her. The question is,does he love her or is it just for the cameras above? I predict she will be a victor. I want her to be a victor, but not a killer.

ReplyDeleteI just finished the book Coraline by Neil Gainman. It was a very good book. To understand the book you have to pay attention to the little details in the begging of the book to understand the events that happen later in the book. I think its cool how when Coraline goes through the door that the animals can talk in the other world. One of the digusting things is when her other mother eats the beetles out of the paper bag. In this book I htink it shows what people will do for their loved ones.
ReplyDeleteI am reading a great book called, The Extraordinary Adventures Of ALFRED KROPP, by Rick Yancey. I really like it and it is extraordinary. it has a little fun with history about king Arthur and the knights of the round table.In the book Alfred has been through sad and scary events. The book is somewhat around this sword that can take over the world.

Stef., I feel very dark and grim when I read this author. Spooky, dark. The writing is sooo good. And when he adds the part about eating beetles, that tops it off!
Jake, PLEASE, tell us what this book is about. You don't give us any kind of a clue. You have to give us a taste by telling what it is about. okay?

ReplyDeleteRight now i am reading Rumble Fish by S.E. Hinton. It's a really good book. I like this book because it shows some of the real troubles and difficulties that real teenagers and people go through. One of the exciting parts is when rusty-James is about to fight this guy and then he pulls out a knife. One of the other books I've read by this author is the Outsiders. That was also a really good book.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book "Aquamarine" by Alice Hoffman. Its about two girls that have been best friends since they were little kids. Their names are Hailey and Claire. Claire is moving to Florida with her grandparents and the girls are very upset. Their favorite spot to hang out is The Capri Beach Club. They are there everyday. After it rained really bad, the girls went to the Capri and Hailey dived in the pool. She came back up looking like she saw something she has never seen before. It was a mermaid named Aquamarine. This is a very good book. The reason i like this book is because it is very unique. I haven't read a book that has a creature like that in it.

ReplyDeleteMrs.Gruhn it's about Arthur and the knights of the round table, alfred is a desendent of lancalot. The magical fighiting sword called Excalibur. They are many mistakes alfred makes that bring him to where he is. The mysteries he can't solve is what kind of brought me in. Is there anywhere you can find the sequels. I finished the book, at the end of it the last fight is by the castle of king Arthur.

One story is about Homer's uncle, the sheriff, and a beautiful lady who get in a contest to see who can make the worlds largest ball of string. The winner gets to marry the beautiful lady. You will have to read the book to find out the rest. I Like this book because it relates to the things in my life.
ReplyDeleteI just started a new book called The Brave. It's about a Native American boxer named Sonny Bear. He was living with his uncle by the name of Jake. Jake is his coach and trainer. The book is set in an Indian reservation. After a boxing match that shakes him up, he's headed to New York where nobody is in charge of him but himself.
ReplyDeleteI am currently reading a book called Children of the Dust by Louise Lawrence. It is a very good book that tells how people can work together during and after a nuclear war. A lot of people are dieing from radiation sickness. One of the things in this book I found very weird is when babies are born after the war, they are called mutant albino children. They are covered in white fur from head to toe and some of them are deformed. I will probably finish this book by Friday.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book My Brother Sam Is Dead. It is taking place in the 1700 during the Revolutionary War. The book has many subjects throughout the book like wars, adventures, and even a little bit of loving. This book is about Tim's brother Sam leaving for the army and his father doesn't want him to go. Tim has to make a choice if he wants to help out is father or his brother. It is an awesome book! I would recommend this book to anyone!
ReplyDeleteI was recently reading the book called "The Host" by Stefenie Meyer. It is about these "alien" things, that look like little, silver centipeds. They come to earth from these other planets, like, thousands of lightyears away. When they get to earth they take humans bodies as their hosts. Well some of the humans don't want to get caught so they go into hiding. Well, Melaine, the human main charactor gets caught and gets turned into a host. The alien inside of Melanie can still hear Melanie talking to her and the alien eventuly falls in love with Melanies old love and her little brother. She sets out to find these two and on the ways she has near death experiances and feirce memories and emotions. I love this book because of the wording. It is intence, sad, moving, and very surprizing. So if you like thrillers this book would be good for you to read.

What I really like about this book is how the girl and the man that killed her mother have to live with each other for several months after the great blizzard. The girl had lost her mother several years ago. She tried to finish her final work. She had a hard time getting it to work. In the end, her cat had knocked over her project. She was just just crused. Then the man had fixed her model and found a way for it stand sturdey. I would suggest reading this book. I ejoyed it very much.

I am reading a great book called Finding Grace by Alyssa Brugman. It's about an 18-year-old girl that just graduated from high-school named Rachel that got a job caring for a mentally challenged girl named Grace. Grace doesn't Talk or do anything for herself. Rachel lives in the same house as Grace and soon finds out that the neighbors aren't the most wonderful people in the world. As she struggles with her life and helps Grace, she learns things about herself and others around her.

It's about three people (a boy-16 years old, a man-somewhere in his thirtys i would guess, and a wild girl with a blackbird-16 years old) who live in a land called Deltora. The belt of deltora is the only thing that stands in the evil shadow lord's way of concouring Deltora. But when the belt is torn apart and scaterd around the land, the three must piece the belt back together again. I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!

The Americans are about to go to war with Japan. Then a Japan air plane strikes the battleship his fathers on. He ends up going to war for a day.

It's about a boy named Joe Bunch and his english teacher assigns him to do an alphabiography, an alphabiography is when you tell about your life in alphabetical order. The book also tells about Joe learns to be himself and not care what other people think. I would recommend this book to anyone.

The really cool part of this book is that it tells of a ghost that choked to death and after his death he went back to a bar to finish an argument that happened just outside of Sabula.

Then they leave in the morning take off the Time and his Father almost get to the second destination. Tim hears horses runing behind the and they are the cow-boys. Then Tim's dad argue then Tim's dad gets hit by a pistol.

ReplyDeleteI am reading a book called Coyote Autumn by Bill Wallace. I love the part when Brad found the hurt coyotes. All of them died but one. He takes care of it without telling his parents and hides it in a dog house. When his parents found out they got really mad at him. Then his dad bought him a new bike for his birthday. He got grounded for a month. Then his dad bought him a bird dog. The coyote and the bird dog chase each other around. The coyote guards his food for life and growls at him.
ReplyDeleteI just finished the book coyote autumn. It was a great book. But when Brad get sick. They had to let scooter go in to the wild. That was so sad. But he got to keep the bird dog. The good part was when the whole thing was over. Adelee was never nice to brad though.

ReplyDeleteI'm reading the same book called The Brave. Sonny is now caught up in an intense dope war and there's only one way to get out. It is to realese the location of Stick the leader of the X-Men, because he is selling death/dope to little kids. Sonny's afraid he'll hurt someone he loves, so Officer Brooks send him back to the reservation to get in shape so he can train to become a New York Boxer like Brooks once was.

ReplyDeleteI'm reading a book called The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp. Alfred's mom died of cancer and his father left him, so his uncle Farrell's. His uncle wants him to play football but he doesn't want to all he wants to do is get his drivers permit. One morning Alfred wakes up and his uncle said that they had a job to do for Mr Myers and he was going to pay them 1,000,000 dollars. They got to his uncle work and got the sword but on the way out Alfred had to fight off three monks. He got through two of the monks and told the third to move and he did but when he did he said "we'll meet again. They got home and Mr Myers took the sword then jabbed it into uncle Farrell's chest then he left.

ReplyDeleteI am reading a book called a boy at war. The time setting is when Pearl Harbor is bombed. In the beginning it starts with Adam going to a new school and he meets his teacher and the teacher asks him where he was originally from and Adam said all over. Since Adam was a military child he usually went to schools on the base but his parents decide to let him go to a public school where he meets a kid named Davi. Adam, Davi, and Martin (a kid that Davi knows) go out fishing in the harbor when it gets bombed and Martin gets a pencil sized splinter in his chest and thinks it went all the way through him.

Tim Sam's little brother lisened to his brother and his father fight.Because Sam want's his fathers gun and his father starts to cry after the fight. Sam stole the gun later in the book. Later in the book cowoys beat up Tims father because they want the cattle. On the way back from sealing the cattle Tims father scoated a head so the don't get in any more trouble. But Tim could not find his father any were when Tim got home his mom did not hear from his father. Later Tims mother told Tim thet his father was on a prison ship and he died on the ship from some kind of disease. Later Sam got shot by the British.

ReplyDeleteI've finished a book called Riding Freedom. This is how it goes!! In this book there is this girl named Charlotte, parents get killed in a very dangerous stagecoach ride. Later on Charlotte is at an orphanage and has to do some cooking and loads of cleaning. Charlotte has a friend named Hayward and everyday after suppertime they go out to the stables and is with the horses. Most of Charlotte's time is spent with her favorite horse Freedom. A few days later on Freedom dies and its all down hill from there. Farther on down in the book, Charlotte wants to leave the orphanage and live far away. The stable man Vern helps her out with clothing and some food, for her trip. Charlotte gets to the river and throws her apron in the water to make it look like she has drowned,and she disguises herself as a boy so if the people who own the orphanage wouldn't know who she was. I wont tell you the end it gets better believe me!!
The Hunger Games sounds like a good book. Though the kind of books I like to read are horror I'd like to read this. If I can I'll read this. I'm still reading Ghost Ship and it's getting to the good part.
ReplyDeleteIm reading a book called Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. Its kinda like the cinderella story but instead of cleaning Ella is stuck under a spell by Lucinda the fairy. When Ella was a baby she had gotten a listening spell because she had always cried. Ella listens to every thing that she is told to do. Here mom had just died and her dad is getting ready to get married to Dame Olga. She has two daughters named Hattie and Olive. Hattie is older than ella by two years.

ReplyDeleteI am reading a book called the lightning theft. Its about this person named Percy Jackson was born and his dad was Posiedan. Zues and Posiedan are about to go to war because Zues called Posiedan a theft because he thought Posiedan stole the master bolt. But Posiedan didnt take the master bolt. So Percy has to go find it which he thinks that Hades has it so he has ten days to get it before the war starts. Do you think he will make it.
ReplyDeleteMy son, Will Hasken, was very excited about a book he brought home on Thursday, the 5th. The book was "Hunger Games". He told me he got it from Mrs. Gruhn and knew it was a "great book". He read 2 hours the first night he brought it home. He plans to have it done by this coming Tuesday). He explained the plot to me and I was apprehensive, but knew it if Mrs. Gruhn had recommended it; and there was "a buzz" about it, it had to be good. I am going to check it out as soon as I finish the two I am currently reading, "New Moon" (15 pages left), and "The Giver" (half-way through...but it is a short one). Both of these I am reading because of the East Central High Schoolers, and both are GREAT books. Keep reading E.C.!!!! And...keep recommending good books to me!! Darla Meisner
